Ogun Reps Member, Loses Mother At 99

The transition to eternal glory has been announced of the beloved mother of Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid, a member of the House of Representatives. Princess Abigail Efunseeke Adekoya passed on to glory on Saturday, 20th February, 2016 having spent 36,016 days on Earth (99 years).
Born in July 1917, Mama lived through the two World Wars.  She bore fourteen children of which two survived, my elder sister and I.  A successful trader and community leader; she excelled as a bridge builder and advocate for broad-based community development.
Her social work in Ago-Iwoye and its environs earned her accolades from within and outside her community. Mama’s experiences prepared her for a stoic approach to life and her mantra to her children was “Stand Firm and Fear not”.
Beyond being active in community affairs, Mama was a prominent leader in Methodist Church Nigeria, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu, Ogun State for which she was conferred with the title ‘Iya-Ijo’ Methodist Church Nigeria, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu, Ogun State’.
Adekoya who represents Ijebu-East / Ijebu-North / Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency recalls that: “Apart from her vivid reminisces of life during the Second World War, Mama’s humanitarian activities stood her in good stead all through her life.  She was loved in equal measure by both her natural and adopted children.”
Mama will be buried according to Christian rites in a week-long burial ceremony slated for May 9th to 14th, 2016 in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Mama will be fondly missed by her children, people of Ago Iwoye and the Methodist Church Nigeria.
